The village<\/h2>

The village of Saint-Georges d’Ol\u00e9ron boasts the oldest and most remarkable building on the island, with its Romanesque church, listed as a Monument Historique since 1931. Its current nave, fortified against invasion, dates from the 11th century. A victim of the Wars of Religion in the 16th and 17th centuries, it was plundered and mutilated on numerous occasions, and underwent major restoration work from 1968 onwards. <\/p>

The magnificent, slate-roofed halles de Saint-Georges d’Ol\u00e9ron, dating from the late 19th century, are enthroned in the center of the town.In the square, fine late 19th-century bourgeois houses bear witness to the prosperity of commerce at the time.<\/p><\/div><\/div>
